Best Kept SECRET in Miami: Colonial Bakery

I was taking my son and his friend's to baseball practice last week, driving east on Flagler and the hungry & restless critters demanded their post school snack. Not wanting to stop at the usual BK or McDonalds - a "Bakery" sign caught my eye so I pulled over. Expecting the usual Cuban fixings, I was surprised to have stumbled into a hidden diamond on Flagler & 36th Ave - by the name of Colonial Bakery. The boys immediately demanded their pastelitos and media noches, but the sweet lady behind the counter suggested some homemade specialties such as pizza pastel, choripan, and other fresh creations her husband, Alfredo, had baked that day. And boy were the kids excited about the pizza pastel! I was forced to buy a whole pie of the pastel, and yet came out to about $6 and I fed 3 very hungry boys. Dalia and Alfredo, the mom & pop owners of Colonial Bakery, also treated us to some free helpings of their homemade sweet treats as well as one of the best Cuban coffees I've ever had. They assured me that they do large parties and deliver their homemade baked goods anywhere in Miami. I highly recommend Colonial for your future kids birthday parties or for your next Cuban pastery craving. Colonial Bakery is open 7 days a week and you won't have to deal with the loud and annoying crowds that are staples at Versailles and La Carreta.
